About
I am a full-time lecturer here at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I was born in Rasht, a culturally rich city less than 30 km (20 mi) south of the Caspian Sea coast. I fell in love with astronomy as a child when my parents enrolled me in an astronomy summer school. Living in a mostly cloudy city, my love for astronomy led me to pursue radio astronomy. I studied radio pulsars for my Master's thesis. I had been teaching, researching, and coding, for a couple of years before Asieh (my wife and best friend) and I moved to Riverside, California, where I received a scholarship to pursue my PhD research on quasars and the intergalactic medium. I love biking, especially downhill mountain biking!
Research Projects
- Mining Intergalactic Medium: detecting and analyzing absorption lines in the spectra of quasars, with a probabilistic approach using supervised machine learning.
- Quasars: analyzing the properties of a small group of extremely red quasars, using unsupervised machine learning.
- Radio Pulsars: investigating the pulse profiles of radio pulsars by combining a variety of complexity measures.
