Research Interests
My main research expertise is in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics focusing on ultracold (T < 1 mK) systems. At these temperatures, atoms and molecules exhibit their quantum nature. I am particularly interested in using ultracold systems to develop compact sensors and hybrid quantum systems. More recently, I have become interested in improving undergraduate STEM education and am currently performing physics education research (PER) to develop a new mobile app with integrated learning modules and data acquisition tools for my course Physics of Music. I am currently working in collaboration with Dr. Hyewon Pechkis on ultracold atom experiments and this physics education research. If you are interested our research team, please contact Dr. Hyewon Pechkis or Dr. Joseph Pechkis at hpechkis@calpoly.edu and jpechkis@calpoly.edu.
