Physics Students
Majors
The Cal Poly physics department has approximately 150 majors. During the academic year, most of them can be found studying, emailing, socializing (or sleeping) in their dedicated student room, known as "h-bar," which is right near the main physics department office.
Society of Physics Students (SPS)
There is a fairly active SPS chapter on campus. Most of their activities can be found at their student-run SPS web site.
Student Work From "Quantum Lab"
The senior level class, known as "quantum lab" is a year long sequence focusing students on experimental, lab-based physics (phys 340 341, and 342). Students are put in front of rather complicated equipment each week, and asked to independently run the experiment and then produce a publication-quality report on it. As a Cal Poly physics major, you too will work on and be able to discuss such complex physics experiments!
