SPS Feedback System Simulations
What We're Doing
We are using a SimuLink model in MatLab to simulate the accelerator feedback system in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS).
Through the use of this model, we are using control theory to optimize both the stability and performance of the accelerator by manipulating the gai
Increasing the gain leads to lower stability but higher performance.
Our intent is to find the point at which we can maximize performance while still keeping the system within the bounds of stability.
Why We're Doing This
Currently, the limiting factor for the LHC's efficiency is the SPS that feeds into it.
By improving the performance of the SPS feedback system, we can improve it's efficiency and consequently improve the efficiency of the LHC as well.
