Jessica Pilgram
Education
- Ph.D., Physics, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), 2023
- M.S., Physics, University of California, Los Angeles, 2020
- B.S., Physics/Math Minor/Astronomy Minor, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, 2017
Research Interests
My research is in experimental plasma physics and laboratory astrophysics. Specifically, I study magnetic field generation related to primordial magnetic seed fields and magnetic field generation in shock waves.
I am passionate about DEI and mentorship programs.
About
Dr. Jessica Pilgram earned her Bachelors of Science in physics with minors in mathematics and astronomy from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in December 2017. She went on to pursue her graduate degrees at UCLA where she earned her Masters of Science in physics in March 2020 and completed her Doctorate of Philosophy in physics in December 2023.
During her graduate studies, Dr. Pilgram conducted experimental plasma physics research focusing on laboratory astrophysics experiments investigating magnetic field generation by the Biermann battery effect in laser-generated plasmas and laser-driven shock waves. She was also highly involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion work in the UCLA physics and astronomy department.
In her free time, Dr. Pilgram enjoys a variety of hobbies including skiing, dance (ballet and jazz), weightlifting, video games, and spoiling her two cats Yennefer and Ciri.
